Sixteen: In Which Klaus Bleeds All Over Everything
A.
[Hey, family. Guess who's back from exploring the highway? This guy! Unfortunately, he had a run-in with a bear and... well... he's not doing so hot. But he's home! And sort of slumping against the entrance-way wall, not even bothering to kick the door closed behind him. Car buddies, feel free to follow him inside, if you like, but he knows who he needs right now.]
Hiccup!
[You see, Hiccup knows where all of his tools are, which is good, because Klaus needs the next phase of his plan to go quickly. He's going to build a little healing engine, similar to the one seen here (or more accurately here, if you want a makeshift one) only it won't be quite as little seeing as it has to go around his torso. Rin may have cauterized his wounds, but that's only a temporary fix, and he'd really rather not resort to killing himself for an easy heal. That's not how Klaus Wulfenbach rolls.]
B.
[A phonecall! Your favorite Baron has survived, Mayfield. He's feeling terribly under the weather, of course, but he's alive, which is pretty awesome. And he'd like to know if he's the only one.]
Has anyone else encountered one of the bears in the woods adjacent to the highway and lived?

Wh-a bear? What on Earth happened!

I went with a group of companions to explore the newly-opened highway and, while exploring the forest that borders the road, we were attacked by a bear. I sustained a fair amount of injuries but I assure you, they are nothing I cannot deal with given proper time to rest.
[Is it just Ples, or does Klaus's voice sound kind of... just a bit weaker than usual?]
no subject
Klaus, how bad are those 'fair amount of injuries'? You don't sound yourself. Are you sure you are okay?
no subject
Small lacerations and bites in various places, and a rather large chunk out of my side. Do not worry. It's currently being fixed.
[Klaus, don't you know that telling Ples not to worry is like telling that one guy not to get worked up about a double rainbow? It just is not going to happen.]
no subject
Klaus, p-please don't downplay injuries like that.
no subject
If you really feel you must nanny me, fine. Keep talking to me. I've got quite a bit of time suddenly freed up in my schedule due to this blasted situation and I may as well spend it doing more than staring at the wall and being bored out of my wits.
no subject
I'm sorry, I, I was... s-simply concerned. A "chunk" out of anything doesn't picture well with me.
I did not mean to offend you, I could not see them, a-after all. I was just, I was merely going by the sound of your voice.
no subject
Ples. You did not offend me. I am merely aggravated by the thought that I am essentially condemned to sitting uselessly inside while something important is happening. I have things to investigate and, more importantly, people to protect -- and in this state, neither is a possibility.
[Of course, if things get really bad, he'll just go out and do what needs to be done anyway. No point in telling Ples that, though; it'll just scare him.]

Other girls would throw a fit and demand a shower. Rin's got other business to tend to first, so she sticks close to the man.]
Hiccups are the least of your worries.

HOLY great Odin's beard oh my gods what... what...
[Hoooboy yes he's freaking out a little. HI BLOOD. HI BUNCH OF PEOPLE COVERED IN IT. HI MAIMED KLAUS WTF]
no subject
[Oh, good, Hiccup isn't dead and actually stayed in the house like Klaus told him too. What a good son he is!]
There is very little time for explanation. To the garage. Now.
[And he'll be making his way in that direction as quickly as possible while keeping tabs on how his organs are doing and whether they are still all inside his body. Rin did a good job, but he's a pessimist.]
no subject
[With a sigh, she looks to the younger boy.]
It isn't as bad as it looks. Garviel, why don't you go to the bathroom and get a towel to stop the bleeding from your head before coming to the garage.
[Oh, it may have been worded as a question, but that was most definitely a command.]
What is in the garage?
no subject
All the tools and materials.
no subject
Hiccup, set aside from that pile of scrap metal there should be something that looks like two small oxygen tanks lashed together with a gauge between them.
[...Oh wait he probably. Won't understand that.]
Cylindrical metal containers. One red and one blue. It should be fairly obvious. Get them. Rin, tubing. Lots of it. Whatever is available, regardless of diameter or length.
no subject
[Hastily the magus goes to look around the garage for the tubing, picking up various pieces into her arms. When she has what she believes to be a suitable amount in her possession, she returns to Klaus for further instruction.]
no subject
no subject
This is why Klaus Wulfenbach always prides himself on thinking ahead.]
Good. The rest should be fairly simple. I will merely require the proper tools...
[And thus a montage begins, because Inku cannot really explain the process of sparking something together in detail. Klaus asks for tools and components which his two helpers bring him in a (mostly) timely manner, and somehow, a miniature healing engine begins to take shape! Exciting!]
no subject
What is this thing's purpose?
no subject
Seeing how he's kinda bleeding all over the place? Probably some sort of healing mechanism. Or something.
[He had no idea how it worked or why it worked, but he knew Klaus, so he knew it worked.]
no subject
no subject
[He taps the gauge with one finger; with the broken glass cleared away, it works well enough. Everything seems to be in order.]
I will need your help integrating it, however. That is, I will need you to hold it in place while I insert the tubing and stitch up the incision I am about to make.
[Oh. Did he not mention that? Yeah. He's going to re-open a section of his side over the careful cauterizing work that Rin did, shove some wires in there, and hope he can stitch it back up in time.
Man is crazy. But that's how he rolls.]
no subject
no subject
[But Hiccup knows at this point that it's pretty much useless to argue when Klaus is like this, so he just slaps a hand over his face, shuts his eyes, and turns around.]
no subject
[Rin won't even begin to try to understand how it works. As a magus, technology is her enemy as it has slowly replaced most of the things a magus can do over the years. A magus that uses technology to their advantage is lazy and ignorant, so she chooses to ignore it primarily.
However... she's going to give him an exasperated look when he talks about slicing his body open again to SHOVE it inside of him.]
Are you mad? You haven't even cleaned it. Don't you understand the risks with infection you're taking...
[On second thought, she just shakes her head to dismiss the warning. This man just took on a godly bear and lived to shove a bunch of metal into his body.]
Let's make haste with this then.
no subject
[Taking one of the knives he's appropriated from the kitchen, Klaus makes an incision about a foot and a half long (that is small, by Spark standards!) down his side over where the bear tried to eat him. He'll enlist Garviel to hold the tank component still over the center of said incision because his hands are likely the most steady, while he works inserting the various offshoot wires into the remaining visible parts of the opening. Hurts like you would not believe, but it will be worth it.
Of course, there's the small matter of him now losing more blood than ever. This will be remedied as he begins to stitch the opening up (this is a fifties house and is well-equipped with sewing gear for the Perfect Wife) and the healing engine slowly but surely starts to do its job.]

"Seems a bit like how our apothecaries do field work, actually."

I think it would be advisable if we returned to our homes and stayed inside for the next week to recover.
And you really do bleed a lot. Geez. How do you still have that much blood in your body? Hey kid. [She's going to tap Hiccup on the shoulder now.]
Go make sure you have plenty of orange juice here.
no subject
[Stating the obvious is apparently a symptom of blood-loss. Yep.
But... there we are. The wound is sealed up, the device is all plugged in and securely strapped to him by means of some re-purposed belts which he's just finished buckling... and if you guys excuse him, he's going to fall flat on his face in a dead faint.
Common occurrence with Sparks, I promise (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20080310).]
no subject
And so he'll just try to help Klaus up again oh wow yeah this guy is out. Hey, Hiccup: ] Mind helpin' me find a place to lay 'im down?
no subject
[Yea see, Rin isn't going to wait for a reply from anyone before heading out of the garage. Klaus seems okay and even if he isn't, won't he awaken the next morning perfectly fine? This stupid town and it's antics were really starting to irk her.
Well, no. The smell of blood and being in her nightgown was what was really irking her.]
no subject
In any case Hiccup is more concerned with the unconscious father figure on the table.]
Couch in the living room is probably best. Unless we want to try hauling him upstairs.
